SYMPTOMS

When you run one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Sounds in the game may not be played.
  • Sound playback may be distorted or scratchy.
  • Sound playback may skip or stutter.
  • You may receive an error message similar to the following:

    MMSYSTEM326 No wave device that can play files in the current format is installed.


CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the sound driver for your sound card is outdated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact the your sound card manufacturer to inquire about how to obtain and install the latest version of the sound driver for your sound card.
