SYMPTOMS

When you use the Gadget Labs Wave/824 audio capture card on Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium, the audio captured by the Windows Media Encoder may skip or be jumpy throughout the course of the encoding session.

The third-party products that are discussed in this article are manufactured by companies that are independent of Microsoft. Microsoft makes no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding the performance or reliability of these products.

CAUSE

During the capture of the audio the Windows system clock slows down. Because the audio file is based on time stamps, the resulting audio output contains skips.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Encoder version 7.0.

This problem does not occur on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000.
