SUMMARY

This article describes the default location for user data that you create by using Entourage.

Note The location of your user data may be different from the default location, depending on the version of the Apple Macintosh operating system (Mac OS) that you are using. Microsoft Entourage 2001 for Mac requires Mac OS version 8.1 or a later version. Microsoft Entourage X for Mac requires Mac OS X version 10.1 or a later version. Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac requires Mac OS X version 10.2.8 or a later version.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft Office for the Macintosh 2001 creates a Documents folder at the root level of the hard disk. OS X creates a Documents folder in each Users folder. Entourage uses this location for the folder structure that stores all user configurations, such as identities, e-mail messages, calendar and task items, newsgroup subscriptions, and caches.

The following folder is the default location for the Entourage 2001 folder structure:

Hard Disk Name:Documents:Microsoft User Data:Office 2001 Identities:Main Identity

The following folder is the default location for the Entourage X folder structure:

Hard Disk Name/Users/user_name/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity

The following folder is the default location for the Entourage 2004 folder structure:

Hard Disk Name/Users/user_name/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/Main Identity

If you have multiple identities, a folder is created for each unique identity. This folder is named with the same name that you use for the identity and is stored at the same folder level as the main identity.

If you want to store your Entourage 2001 data in a different location or partition, create an alias of the Microsoft User Data folder after you move it to the new location, and then move the alias to the Documents folder. For Entourage X, due to changes in the operating system, the data must stay in its installed location.

Because all Macintosh aliases have the word "alias" appended to the name, you must rename the alias to "Microsoft User Data" (without quotation marks) by removing the word "alias" from the name. This name must be exactly as the original name.

To create and rename an alias:

  1. Open the Macintosh hard disk, and then locate and click the folder.
  2. Open a new window where you want the alias to be located.
  3. While you hold down the Command and Option keys, drag the folder from the originating folder to the destination folder for the alias.

This creates the alias in the location that you want with the same name as the original folder's name.
