Hewlett-Packard OmniBook Hangs When You Remove 16-bit PC Card After Hibernation or Standby

SYMPTOMS

When you add a 16-bit (R2) PC Card to a Hewlett-Packard (HP) OmniBook portable computer, and then remove the card after having the computer in Hibernation or Standby mode, the computer may stop responding (hang) and you may receive the following error message:

CMDNINST caused a general protection fault in module KRNL386.EXE at 001:00002867

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, remove the PC Card before the computer goes into Hibernate or Standby mode, or wait for 10 minutes or so for the computer to fully restore and load drivers.
