SYMPTOMS

If you print a document that was created with a Microsoft Works Word Processor template, the printed document may appear different in one of the following ways from how it appears in Print Preview:

  • The printed document contains one more page than the number of pages displayed in Print Preview.
  • A blank page is attached to the end of the printed document.

CAUSE

The behavior can occur if the margins in the Works Word Processor template are smaller than the margin requirements of your printer. If this is the case, a new page is created to accommodate the content, and in some cases, the extra page is blank.

Some printers that may exhibit this behavior include the following:

  • Hewlett-Packard DeskJet models: 2500, 680c, 692c, 1600, 670c, 660c
  • Hewlett-Packard LaserJet models: 2600, 4mv, 8550, 4500

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, adjust the top and bottom margins of the document to match the margin requirements of your printer. To adjust the margins of you document and accurately preview the printed document, follow these steps:

  1. Start Works Task Launcher.
  2. On the Programs tab, click Works Word Processor.
  3. In the right pane, select the template that you want, and then click Start this task.
  4. Click the style that you want, and then click Finish.
  5. On the File menu, click Print Preview.

Note the appearance of the template.

  1. Click Page Setup.
  2. Under Margins, click the margin sizes that you want, and then click OK.

The printed appearance of your document is now accurate in Print Preview.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Works 6.
