Changing Resolution or Image Format Generates Error Message About Capture Device

SYMPTOMS

When you change resolution to 640 x 480 or change to RAW ADC Data or BTYUV Image Format, you may receive the following error message:

Either your capture device is in use by another application, or the output from your capture device is not recognized by Windows Movie Maker. Please close any other applications that use capture devices, or change your device settings to output to a supported format.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you use an ATI TV Wonder video adapter with the Brooktree PCI video capture driver.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition.
