SYMPTOMS
After you upgrade Internet Explorer to version 5.5, 5.5 Service Pack 1, 5.5 Service Pack 2, or 6, or you install a Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack on a computer that is configured to use the MultiLanguage Menus and Dialogs tool for Internet Explorer with a non-English language enabled, some menus and dialog boxes may be displayed in English instead of the non-English language that was enabled previously.
For example, after you upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.5, some menus and dialog boxes in Internet Explorer may be displayed in English instead of the non-English language that was enabled previously, or after you install a Windows 2000 service pack, Microsoft Outlook Express or the Windows address book may be displayed in English instead of the non-English language that was enabled previously.
Note that installing Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) causes some menu items in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer 5.01 to revert to English. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

CAUSE
You must use the same version of the MultiLanguage Menus and Dialogs tool for Internet Explorer as the version of Internet Explorer you are running, but new versions of the MultiLanguage Menus and Dialogs tool for Internet Explorer are not installed with new versions of Internet Explorer. Windows 2000 service packs also contain the new versions of Outlook Express that requires a newer version of the MultiLanguage Menus and Dialogs tool for Internet Explorer components that is not installed with the service packs.
RESOLUTION
To download and install the appropriate MultiLanguage Menus and Dialogs tool for your version of Internet Explorer:
- Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- In the left pane, under Other Options, click Personalize Windows Update, select the Windows Update Catalog under See Also check box, and then click Save Settings. A selection named Windows Update Catalog will appear under See Also.
- Click Windows Update Catalog.
- Click Find updates for Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Select the appropriate operating system version for your system, and then click Advanced search options.
- Select the Multi-Language Features check box. Click to clear the other check boxes, and then click Search.
- In the search results, click to expand Multi-Language Features(
xx). - Click Add to select the appropriate updates for the version of Internet Explorer that you have. For more information about determining which version of Internet Explorer you have, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

- Click Go to Download Basket.
- Enter a location to save the download (or click Browse to specify the location).
- Click Download Now.
- Click Accept on the license window.
The update will install automatically.
Note You must have the Windows 2000 MultiLanguage User Interface (MUI) component installed to run the MultiLanguage Menus and Dialogs tool for Internet Explorer. The MUI is available only in the MultiLanguage version of Windows 2000.
