SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, when you try to open a project stored on a Novell network server, you receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This problem may occur when all of the following conditions are true:
- Your computer is running Microsoft Windows 98.
- Your computer uses the Novell Client for Windows 98 version 3.2.
This behavior occurs because version 3.2 of the Novell Client for Windows 98 is not compatible with Microsoft Project 2000.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.
Method 1
Install an earlier version of the Novell Client for Windows 98. The following versions work correctly with Microsoft Project 2000:
- Version 3.1, dated February 8, 1999 (2/8/99).
- Version 3.1 SP1, dated June 15, 1999 (6/15/99).
- Version 3.1 SP2, dated October 3, 1999 (10/3/99).
Method 2
Store your Microsoft Project 2000 files on a local drive rather than on the network server.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
