SYMPTOMS

In Visio 2000, when you use the Shape Explorer to add a shape, you may receive the following error message:

An action cannot be completed because a component is not responding.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

To obtain SR-1, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To temporarily work around this problem, do not use the Shape Explorer to add shapes directly to the drawing. Instead, do the following:

  1. In the Shape Explorer, right-click the shape that you want to add.
  2. Click Open Containing Stencil.
  3. Drag the shape from the stencil.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.  This problem was corrected in Microsoft Visio 2000 SR-1.
