SYMPTOMS
In Visio 2000 Standard Edition, when you create and edit an organization chart without using the organization chart template, Visio may stop responding when you try to reopen the drawing.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

To temporarily work around this problem, open another drawing before you open the organization chart.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Visio 2000 SR-1.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior
- Click the New Drawing tool to open a blank drawing page, and then on the File menu, point to Stencils, point to Organization Chart, and then click Organization Chart Shapes to open the organization chart stencil.
- Drag a superior shape, such as an Executive or a Manager shape, onto the drawing page.
Note that you receive a message asking if you want to enable the automatic organization chart behavior.
- Click Yes.
- Drag several subordinate shapes, such as a Position shape, onto the superior shape.
- Save and close the drawing.
- Open a blank drawing, and then open the drawing that you just saved.
Note that the drawing that you just saved opens without the organization chart toolbar.
- Delete one of the subordinate shapes.
The connector should be deleted, and the shapes should be reformatted, but they are not.
- Save and close the drawing, and then close the blank drawing.
- Reopen the drawing.
Note that Visio stops responding.
