SYMPTOMS

You cannot select an ellipse that has no height.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

To temporarily work around this problem, select the shape by dragging a bounding outline around the shape with the mouse pointer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.  This problem was corrected in Microsoft Visio 2000 SR-1.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Use the Ellipse tool to draw an ellipse.
  2. Resize the ellipse so that it is flat (height of 0).
  3. Click somewhere on the page so that the shape is no longer selected.
  4. Try to select the ellipse by clicking it. The mouse pointer should turn white when you rest it over the shape, but note that it does not.
