SYMPTOMS
The AutoDiscovery and Layout solution may fail to detect a running Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) if you do not have administrator permissions.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Visio 2000 SR-1.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior
- Make sure the MSDE is running and set to Autostart.
- Log in as a user who is not the administrator, or a user who does not have administrative permissions on the computer.
- Start the AutoDiscovery and Layout solution. Note that the Start MSDE box appears.
- Click OK. Note that the AutoDiscovery and Layout solution quits.
