FP2000: Error Message: "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" When You Publish from FrontPage to Local Host

SYMPTOMS

When you publish to a Web on the Microsoft Windows 200-based local computer, the following error message is displayed at the top of the browser:

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Additionally, the following error message is displayed at the bottom of the browser:

Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer

CAUSE

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0, which is included as a built-in component of Windows 2000, is not installed.

NOTE: In Windows 2000 Professional, IIS 5.0 is not installed by default unless Windows 2000 was upgraded over a previous version of Windows that had Peer Web Services (PWS) installed.

RESOLUTION

To install IIS 5.0, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components, click the Internet Information Services (IIS) component, and then click Next. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
