FIX: Queued Components on an MSMQ Dependent Client May Cause Application Event Log Error

SYMPTOMS

When you try to enable the Queuing functionality for a COM+ application on a computer where MSMQ is installed as a Dependent Client, the COM+ catalog may show an error indicating that it couldn't find a specified service, and log the following COM+ error in the Application Event Log:

The run-time environment has detected the absence of a critical resource and has caused the process that hosted it to terminate. OpenService Server Application ID: {02D4B3F1-FD88-11D1-960D-00805FC79235} Server Application Name: System Application Error Code = 0x80070424 : The specified service does not exist as an installed service. CAUSE

The COM+ run-time environment is attempting to start the Message Queuing service on a computer that is configured as an MSMQ Dependent Client. This process doesn't work correctly (fails) because the Message Queuing service is not installed on an MSMQ Dependent Client.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
