SYMPTOMS
When you install the Japanese version of Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 builds prior to 8807, the installation changes the following files and language versions from JPN (Japanese) or no version to ENU (English) (both original and altered versions are listed):
path and file language c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 6.0\common\setup\1041\pkginst.exe - c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 6.0\common\setup\1041\pkginst.exe enu c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 6.0\common\msdev98\bin\em.dll jpn c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 6.0\common\msdev98\bin\em.dll enu c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 6.0\common\msdev98\bin\ide\devdbg.pkg jpn c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 6.0\common\msdev98\bin\ide\devdbg.pkg enu
CAUSE
This is a known bug in Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4, build 8806 or earlier.
RESOLUTION
Install the Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 released-to-market version.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 builds prior to 8807. This bug was corrected in the release-to-market version of Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4.
