APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Message Queue Server 1.0

This article was previously published under Q262882

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ) Site Controller cannot be clustered with Microsoft SQL Server 7. When you install SQL Server 7 on a Windows NT 4.0 Server that is part of a cluster created with Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS), only MSMQ clients or Routing Servers (RS) are installed on the servers. The SQL Server 7 is not supported for the installation of MSMQ Site Controllers on a cluster.

CAUSE

Installation of the MSMQ Site Controller in an MSCS configuration requires that you use the Limited SQL Wizard from the Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition component CD in the \msmq\sql.wiz directory. The Limited SQL Wizard is not compatible with SQL Server 7.

RESOLUTION

This hotfix incorporates a new setup DLL for MSMQ used only with SQL Server 7.0 on a cluster. The hotfix includes both a program that updates the second node of a cluster after you install MSMQ on the first node, and a new queue manager DLL that is replaces the existing MQQM.DLL file in certain conditions.

Complete installation instructions are included in the README.TXT file that is included with the hotfix. Please read the information in the README.TXT file before you begin the procedures.
