SUMMARY

You may need to delete the Inbox rules for one or more mailboxes. This article describes how to use the Exmerge utility (Exmerge.exe) to delete the Inbox rules for a selected group of mailboxes.

MORE INFORMATION

The Exmerge utility can archive data from an Exchange Server mailbox to a personal folder file (.pst file). If you perform this procedure, the Exmerge utility copies the data to the .pst file and then deletes the data from the server. You can use this archive feature to delete Inbox rules.

To delete the Inbox rules:

  1. Start the Exmerge utility.
  2. Click Two Step Merge to select the two-step merge procedure, and then click Next.
  3. Click Step 1: Copy data to Personal Folders, and then click Next.
  4. Type the Exchange Server computer name. If you are running Exmerge 2000 against a computer that is running Exchange 2000 Server, you may need to specify a domain controller.
  5. Click Options to open the Data Selection Criteria properties.
  6. Click the Data tab, and then click to select only the Associated folder messages check box.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the User messages and folders check box is cleared. If the User messages and folders check box is already selected, click to clear it.

  1. Click the Import Procedure tab, and then click Archive data to target store.
  2. Click the Folders tab, click Process only these folders, and then click Modify to display the Select folders to include button.
  3. In the leftmost list, click Inbox, click Add, and then click OK.
  4. Click OK to close the properties.
  5. Click Next.
  6. If you are running Exmerge 2000 against a computer that is running Exchange 2000 Server, a list of databases may be displayed. Select the databases from which you want Exmerge to extract the list of mailboxes. Click Next.
  7. The list of mailboxes is displayed. Select the mailboxes that have Inbox rules that you want to delete.
  8. Click Next until the page on which you can specify the target folder is displayed. The target folder is the folder where the .pst files are created and the data is copied from the mailboxes.
  9. Click Next until the program starts running against the mailboxes.

After the program finishes, the Inbox rules in all the mailboxes that you selected are deleted.

NOTE: Because the preceding procedure deletes associated messages from the Inbox folders of the selected mailboxes, any views or forms that are saved in associated messages are also deleted, in addition to the Inbox rules.
