SYMPTOMS

The BOOTP process typically consists of a BOOTP client requesting a list of options and a BOOTP server responding with the values of those requested options. If an option is not requested, a value for that specific option is not returned. However, legacy BOOTP devices may have need of certain options that they cannot be configured to request.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.

MORE INFORMATION

After you apply this hotfix, a Windows 2000 DHCP Server that is configured with option 144 returns the option 144 value whether or not the BOOTP client requests it.
