SYMPTOMS

When you use a Dell Inspiron 3500 computer running Windows Millennium Edition (Me), with a NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV video adapter installed, the text on the LCD screen may appear grainy and distorted.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because of an incompatibility of the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) with the NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV video driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of your computer to inquire about the availability of an updated version of the BIOS, or contact the manufacturer of the NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV video adapter about the availability of a fix for this issue.

MORE INFORMATION

Some BIOSs have a setting to allow full-screen display and text at lower resolutions than what the LCD was designed to display for its maximum resolution. The LCD screen on the Dell Inspiron is designed to display at 1024 x 768 at full screen; when displaying at a lower resolution, it will distort the text because it stretches the display to fill the screen instead of reducing the size of the screen.
