SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to resume operation of your computer from standby mode, the display may not reappear.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if your computer has an Accelerated Graphic Port (AGP) graphics device but is using a generic device driver.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, install the specific device driver for the graphics adapter in your computer. You may need to contact the vendor of your computer or graphics adapter to obtain the most recent drivers. You can find links to those vendors in the "More Information" section.
MORE INFORMATION
By using a generic graphics driver, you prevent the computer from re-initializing the display in "resume from standby" or hibernation mode. This functionality requires Graphics Address Relocation Table (GART) support, but that is not provided by the generic driver. When a generic driver is being used, it is listed as a standard PCI driver in Device Manager.
To view devices listed in Device Manager, follow these steps:
- On the Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) desktop, right-click My Computer.
- On the shortcut menu, click Properties.
- Click the Device Manager tab and select View devices by type.
- Double-click Display adapters to see which device drivers are installed on your computer.
