PRB: Visual Studio 6.0 Setup Stops Responding on Windows 2000 When You Are Using the Matrox Dual Head G400

SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup for Visual Studio 6.0 on a computer that has Windows 2000 and the Matrox Graphics Dual Head G400 video card, Setup seems to stop responding after the "Starting Visual Studio 6.0 setup, please wait" message appears.

CAUSE

This is because the Use max view, Dual head only option within the Power Desk utility supplied by Matrox Graphics is enabled.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, either:

  • From the Multi Display Controls window in Power Desk, clear the Use max view, Dual head only option (this option may not be present, depending on your version of video driver and Power Desk).
  • On Windows 2000-based systems, reboot into "Safe Mode" and press F8 while the black "Starting Windows" screen is displayed.

  • On Windows NT 4.0, reboot and select VGA Mode from the Startup selections.
