RESOLUTION
Install the Visual Studio Service Pack 4 release-to-market version.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 build 8796. This bug was corrected in the release-to-market version of Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4. Steps to Reproduce Behavior
Install Windows NT 4 Server, ENU (English) version.
Install the complete Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition, ENU version.
Install Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 3, ENU version.
Install Visual Studio 6 Service Pack 4, build 8796.
Take a snapshot (inventory) of installed files for comparison by a comparative program, such as Diff.
Install Visual C++ 6.0 Processor Pack build 8793.
Take snapshot #2.
Compare the two snapshots.
RESULT: Six files are not installed by Visual Studio Service Pack 4:
- Enablesimd.reg
- Disablesimd.reg
- Masmref.doc
- Setup.exe
- Ppreadme.htm
- Detect.dsp
