FIX: VS6 SP4 BETA: The Language Version of the C2.dll File Changes from Japanese to English on the JPN Version |

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS
Beta versions of the Visual Studio Service Pack 4 and the Visual C++ Processor Pack Setup program change the language version of the C2.dll file from Japanese (JPN) to English (ENU) on the JPN version.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the Visual C++ Processor Pack (VCPP) dependency files are not being localized.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install the released-to-market version of Visual Studio Service Pack 4.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 JPN beta builds. This bug was corrected in the release-to-market version of Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4.

The Visual Studio Service Pack 4 application and the VCPP application are the same, and Visual Studio Service Pack 4 installs all the applications. The Visual Studio Service Pack 4 installations have a different server from the VCPP server that is installed during the VCPP installation. This server is not localized. All VCPP installations have an unlocalized server.
For the JPN installation of Visual Studio Service Pack 4 and VCPP, you have all JPN files, but an ENU server.
Steps to Reproduce the Behavior
- Install Windows 98, JPN version.
- Install the complete Visual Studio 6.0 Professional Edition, JPN version.
- Install Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 3, JPN version.
- Install Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4, JPN version.
- Take an inventory snapshot. You can do this by using utilities such as FileImg.exe or other third-party comparative programs. See the specific program's help files for information on its use (NOTE: these are unsupported utilities.
- Install the VCPP (build 8793).
- Create the second snapshot file.
- Compare the two snapshot files.
The language version of the C2.dll file changes from JPN to ENU.
