FIX: Applets Always Connect Through a SOCKS Server

SYMPTOMS

When an applet opens a socket with a URL that resides on an intranet, the Microsoft virtual machine (Microsoft VM) always attempts to go through a SOCKS server, even though the do not go through proxy option is set.

CAUSE

The Microsoft VM does not check the proxy bypass list when it opens the socket.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This bug occurs in both the 3100 and 3200 series of the Microsoft VM.

This problem was corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
