FIX: VS6 SP4 BETA: File Conflicts Over a Visual SourceSafe 6.0 Netsetup Installation

SYMPTOMS

When you install Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 build 8576 over a Visual SourceSafe 6.0 Netsetup installation, two of the system files that should be installed by Visual Studio Service Pack 4 do not match the versions listed in the updated Service Pack 4 Vss98net.inf file. These files are:

Msvcrt.dll

Mfc42.dll

In Visual SourceSafe 6.0a: version 8447 (with a modified date of 12/28/1999)
In Service Pack 4: version 8576 with a modified date of 8/4/1999)

CAUSE

The file VSS98net.inf does not include the latest versions of these files.

RESOLUTION

Install Visual Studio Service Pack 4 release-to-market version.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4 build 8576. This bug was corrected in the release-to-market version of Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 4.

The file Msvcrt.dll installed by Visual Studio Service Pack 4 (release-to-market version) is build 8797 (the Service Pack 3 version was 8168).

The file Mfc42.dll installed by Visual Studio Service Pack 4 (release-to-market version) is build 8665 (the Service Pack 3 version was 8447).

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

Install Visual Studio Service Pack 4 with a build earlier than 8806.
