SYMPTOMS
On some computers, the Standby command may not be available in a multiple-processor configuration, even though it is available in a single-processor configuration.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur on some motherboards with the PIIX4 chip set that were originally intended for single-processor computers.
RESOLUTION
To use the Standby command in Windows 2000 on such a computer, install a single-processor hardware abstraction layer (HAL) that prevents the computer from hanging and allows the Standby command. STATUS
This behavior is by design. Because the PIIX4 chip set was not designed for multiple-processor usage, the computer cannot enter the standby state correctly and cannot resume properly.
