SYMPTOMS
NOTE: The information in this article applies only to Simplified Chinese Windows 2000.
WinMgmt error message 43 ("WMI ADAP failed to connect to namespace \\.\root\cimv2\MS_404 with the following error: 8004100e") may appear in the Application log every time you reboot the computer. This behavior occurs only after you run the System Information tool (Msinfo32.exe), which sets Winmgmt.exe to start automatically after each reboot.
CAUSE
When it is initializing Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM), WinMgmt uses the default language setting, which results in the Traditional Chinese language being used.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.
