SYMPTOMS

When you play Microsoft Allegiance, you may receive one of the following error messages:

Your connection to the game server was lost.
Reason: guaranteed message could not be delivered.

Your connection to the game server was lost.
Reason: Pings are not coming back.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if any of the following conditions are true:

  • You connect to the Allegiance game server through a proxy server or firewall.
  • You connect to the Allegiance game server by using Microsoft Windows 98 Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) or Network Address Translation (NAT).
  • You are experiencing high Internet latency.
  • The Allegiance game server has lost its connection to the Internet.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following methods in the order that they appear. If the issue continues to occur, continue to the next method.

Install the Latest Version of DirectX

To download and install the latest version of DirectX, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Configure the Proxy Server or Firewall

Use a Direct Internet Connection

If you connect to the Allegiance game server by using Microsoft Windows 98 Internet Connection Sharing or other forms of NAT, connect directly to the Internet instead. Allegiance is not compatible with Windows 98 Internet Connection Sharing and some other forms of NAT.

Select a Different Allegiance Game Server

If the game server where you are playing loses its connection to the Internet, click the Allegiance Zone button near the bottom of the Allegiance game screen, click Games List, and then click a different Allegiance game server.

If you are playing a free game, click the Free Games button near the bottom of the Allegiance game screen, click Games List, and then click a different Allegiance game server.

Note If you are playing a LAN game, click the LAN Games button near the bottom of the Allegiance game screen, and then click a different Allegiance game server.
