Site Server Search Database Crawl Wizard Fails on Windows 2000

Article ID: 258984

Article Last Modified on 7/16/2004

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition

This article was previously published under Q258984

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Site Server Search HTML Administration pages to configure a database (ODBC) crawl on a computer running Windows 2000, "ASP 0113 (0x80004005) timeout" error messages may occur and the wizard fails.

CAUSE

The following property specifies whether an ASP page can allow paths relative to the current directory (by using the ..\ notation):

AspEnableParentPaths
Data type: Boolean
Default value: FALSE
Inheritance: Inheritable

If this value is set to TRUE, it constitutes a potential security risk because an include path may be able to access critical or confidential files outside the application's root directory.

The Site Server Search HTML Administration pages use AspEnableParentPaths. If this property is set to FALSE, the ODBC wizard does not work.

Because this value is set to FALSE in the default installation of Windows 2000, the Site Server Search HTML Administration database (ODBC) crawl wizard fails.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
