SYMPTOMS

The FTP service may not time out inactive sessions in the time period specified in the Connection Timeout setting. This may cause new connections not to be allowed if the number of maximum connections is reached. This problem occurs only under certain circumstances if the clients connect by using Passive mode (PASV).

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
