Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, includes a utility named Doskbd that modifies a program's keyboard polling to improve system performance when you are running MS-DOS-based programs.
There is no such utility for Windows 2000, and the Windows NT 4.0 version does not work in Windows 2000. Doskbd works by monitoring how frequently the MS-DOS-based program checks the keyboard buffer for input. If it checks too frequently during a specific interval (by default, a single system timer tick), the program is suspended, or put to sleep, for a short period of time. This improves performance in Terminal Server by keeping MS-DOS-based programs from consuming too much of the CPU resources.
