SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a message that is based on either a custom Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) or Outlook form by using MAPI calls or the PrepareForm or ShowForm functions, the form opens in IPM.Note, regardless of the message class.

CAUSE

This behavior is caused by design changes between Microsoft Outlook 98 and Outlook 2000.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Office 2000 service release that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can use the Outlook Object Model.
