Processor Does Not Enter Power Saving Mode

SYMPTOMS

Battery usage may be high and the battery may not last as long as you expect. You may see a 25 percent decline in the amount of time you can use the computer when you are using the battery.

CAUSE

The Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) BIOS instructs the operating system to place the processor (CPU) in the C2/C3 state. However, the operating system does not place the CPU in the C2/C3 state because of continued bus activity.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this fix.
