SYMPTOMS
When you run multiple Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Virtual Machines (VMs) in a clustered environment, and you have message tracking enabled for both VMs, the tracking information for both VMs may be written to the log of only one of the VMs, even though each VM should have a set of exclusive tracking logs.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if there is incorrect data in the NetbiosSmb transport. There is only one NetbiosSmb endpoint for all adapters in the computer. When the server is bound to a new transport, the server is implicitly bound to the NetbiosSmb transport. When that transport is deleted, any sessions that use the regular Netbt transport are destroyed. However, sessions that are connected through the NetbiosSmb transport are not destroyed, therefore the RPC binding call to write the message tracking logs always gets the same VM and writes tracking data to one set of logs for both VMs.
RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
