SYMPTOMS
When you click the Index tab for the first time in Windows 2000 Help, you may receive a Dr. Watson error message and the Help window may close.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the partition in which Windows 2000 is installed has less than 2 megabytes (MB) of free space.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, delete the Windows.chw file from the %SystemRoot%\Help folder. Do not click the Index tab again until you have created more free space in the partition in which Windows 2000 is installed.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
