SYMPTOMS
When you are using a Microsoft Windows 2000-based computer with the Network Address Translation (NAT) feature in use, the demand dial filters do not work. Demand dial filters are designed to prevent the demand-dial interface from connecting when the packet filtering conditions are met. The demand dial connection will be made regardless of whether there is a filter configured and matched.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To work around this behavior, control the activation of the demand dial interface in this situation by defining static routes for the interface for the networks that need to be reached.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
MORE INFORMATION
This workaround is not applicable in every case. For example, using the interface for Internet connection would make it difficult to define appropriate static routes.
