SYMPTOMS

When you use a fixed pitch font, such as MS Gothic or MS Mincho in the Japanese-language version of Windows 2000, the fonts may not be aligned properly on your monitor or printer.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you configure the computer to use a double-byte character set (DBCS).

This issue occurs because Windows 2000 adjusts the pixel width of double-byte characters to twice the size of single-byte characters. The correct alignment depends upon the output device because Windows calculates the pixel width values separately for each device.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 service pack that contains this fix.

To resolve this problem immediately, download the fix by clicking the download link later in this article or contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix.
