256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry
SYMPTOMS
After you make changes to the registry values for either the IMAP4 or POP3 protocol log path, you still see the log files in the old path being updated until the services are restarted. This is not the behavior of other service parameters in the registry and may cause confusion.
CAUSE
The log files path is used throughout the life of the service with the assumption that all files are in the same folder. Changing this path dynamically can cause unpredictable results that can easily be avoided by restarting the service.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
