WD2000: Error Message "Word Cannot Complete the Save" When You Save Document Opened in Internet Explorer

SYMPTOMS

When you save your document, the following error message may appear:

Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error (<filename>).

where <filename> is the name of the file that you are trying to save.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true: You click a hyperlink to a Microsoft Word document.

-and-

The document opens in Internet Explorer.

-and-

You are running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 on one of the following platforms:

  • Microsoft Windows 95
  • Microsoft Windows 98


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
