SYMPTOMS
When installing Microsoft PowerPoint 97, you may receive the following error message:
Setup could not read from the file D:\PPT97INV.DLL
NOTE: D:\ is the letter of your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
As a result of this error, you are unable to install PowerPoint 97.
CAUSE
This problem is caused Symantec Norton AntiVirus. It is possible other anti-virus programs may cause this problem as well.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, disable Norton AntiVirus, and run PowerPoint 97 Setup again. To disable Norton AntiVirus:
- Start the Norton AntiVirus Main Program from the Norton AntiVirus program group.
- Click Options.
- On the Auto-Protect tab, click to clear the Load Auto-Protect at startup check box.
- Click OK.
- Click Yes when prompted whether to unload Auto-Protect now.
- Quit the program.
STATUS
This problem occurs when you use Symantec Norton Antivirus 2000 version 6.0 and Microsoft PowerPoint 97 version 8.0.
