When you start Windows 2000 on a Hewlett-Packard (HP) Pavilion 6530 computer, the mouse pointer may not work.

This behavior can occur if the BIOS setting for the PS/2 mouse on the HP Pavilion 6530 computer is set to Auto-Detect (the default setting). If you use Standby mode and then resume the computer, the mouse works again.

To work around this issue, set the PS/2 BIOS setting to Enable instead of Auto-Detect.

This problem may also apply to other laptops experiencing these symptoms (or similar symptoms). For other laptops with similar BIOS settings, you can change the BIOS setting from Auto-Detect to Enable (or a similar setting) to attempt to work around the problem. Consult the manufacturer's documentation for more information regarding PS/2 BIOS settings for your computer.
