XCON: MTA Performance Monitor Messages/Sec Counter Doesn't Count Messages from Work Queue to Store

Article ID: 249356

Article Last Modified on 2/21/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q249356

SYMPTOMS

When you send a large number of messages between Exchange 2000 servers, the performance monitor counter for monitoring messages processed each second by the message transfer agent (MTA) may incorrectly read zero. This behavior can occur when there are messages still in the work queue of the receiving MTA, but there are no more messages coming into the queue from the sending server. It is also possible for the reported number of messages being processed to be lower than what is actually being processed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.
