SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to send an e-mail message to an SMTP address, such as sample@microsoft.com, through the Microsoft Message Queue Server (MSMQ) Exchange Server connector, a non-deliverable receipt (NDR) is received. This is an Exchange Server message, and not an MSMQ message. The MSMQ message that is sent to the MSMQ Exchange Server connector's inbound queue is removed from the queue.
CAUSE
Exchange Server cannot send an e-mail message that is sent from one gateway application to another. Because the SMTP connector and the MSMQ connector are both gateway applications, Exchange Server does not send the e-mail message.
RESOLUTION
Set up a custom recipient for the SMTP address. When you send an MSMQ e-mail message to this recipient, the e-mail message is forwarded through the SMTP gateway.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
For more information on sending e-mail messages through the MSMQ Exchange Server connector, see the following MSDN Web page:
Steps to Reproduce Behavior
Send an MSMQ e-mail message to an inbound MSMQ Exchange Server connector queue. Address it to a valid SMTP address.
