SYMPTOMS
When you open a workbook in Microsoft Excel 97, some formulas unexpectedly calculate a value of zero.
CAUSE
- When you opened the workbook, you clicked No when you were asked to update the links.
-and-
- The workbook that you are linking to is not open.
-and-
- The formulas that do not calculate correctly refer to a defined name in another workbook.
-and-
- The defined name contains a relative cell reference. For example, the defined name refers to =Sheet1!A$1.
-and-
- The following conditions exist in the workbook that contains the defined name:
- The Iteration option on the Calculation tab of the Options dialog box is enabled.
- The workbook contains a circular reference.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a.
