Excel: Cell Doesn't Update If Worksheet Linked to Macro Sheet

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 1.x, 2.2, 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY

When using an external link on a worksheet to refer to a cell on a macro sheet, the worksheet cell will not update (even when the macro sheet is updated) if the worksheet cell is not forced to recalculate.

Macro sheets are calculated only when a macro is executed, and then only one cell after another, down a single column [unless a GOTO(), RETURN(), HALT(), or RUN() command or user-defined function is called].

If the worksheet cell containing the external reference is forced to recalculate in some manner, the cell receives the latest information. The worksheet will not be recalculated because of a change on the macro sheet to which it is linked. An external link to a macro sheet is not recommended for maintaining a hot link.
