SYMPTOMS

When you are using Adobe Photoshop 5.0.2 on a computer running Microsoft Windows 2000 and you select tools from the toolbar, the cursor does not match the selected tool. Adding a STICKYCURSOR line at the end of the Photos50.ini file, as the Adobe Corporation recommends on its Web site, does not solve the problem.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because of an incompatibility between the Photoshop program and some Windows 2000 video drivers and video adapters. The behavior typically occurs when certain drivers try to maximize performance by caching the cursors.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, slide the graphics hardware acceleration setting down a notch to disable the hardware cursor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000.
