SUMMARY

This article describes how to install individual programs included in Microsoft Works Suite 2000 without using the Works Suite 2000 Installation Wizard.

This information is useful if you want to install only specific programs or if you encounter problems installing Works Suite 2000 using the Installation Wizard.

The programs included in Works Suite 2000 include:

  • Microsoft Works 2000
  • Microsoft Word 2000
  • Microsoft Works Word Add-in
  • Microsoft Home Publishing 2000

Before you attempt to install an individual program included in Works Suite 2000, follow the instructions in the "Prepare Your Computer" section of this article. When you finish the steps in the "Prepare Your Computer" section, you can proceed to the "Install Programs" section for information about how to install each program included in Works Suite 2000.

Prepare Your Computer

Before you install an individual Works Suite 2000 program, use the following methods to install shared components that are needed by the Works Suite 2000 programs.

Quit all running programs

Quit all unnecessary programs running on your computer.

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open the Close Program dialog box.
  2. Quit all programs except Explorer and Systray (which are components of Microsoft Windows). To quit a program, click the program, and then click End Task.
  3. Repeat steps one and two until you have quit all unnecessary programs that are running on your computer.

NOTE: Repeat these steps if you restart your computer after you install a program included in Works Suite 2000.

Install Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 and Microsoft Outlook Express version 5.0

To install Internet Explorer version 5.0 and Outlook Express version 5.0:

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 4 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. When you receive the following message, click Close:

    To install Microsoft Home Publishing 2000, insert the setup CD.

  3. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  4. In the Named box, type ie5setup.exe.
  5. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  6. In the list of found files, double-click the Ie5setup.exe file to start Internet Explorer Setup.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Internet Explorer version 5.0.

Install Microsoft Data Access version 2.1

To install Microsoft Data Access:

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. When you insert the CD-ROM, press and hold down the SHIFT key to prevent Setup from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type mdac_typ.exe.
  4. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found files, double-click the Mdac_typ.exe file to start Microsoft Data Access Setup.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Microsoft Data Access version 2.1.

Install Programs

Now that the necessary components are installed on the computer, you can install the individual programs included in Works Suite 2000. For each Works Suite 2000 program you want to install, follow the steps in the appropriate section.

Install Home Publishing 2000

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 4 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. When you receive the following message, click Close:

    To install Microsoft Home Publishing 2000, insert the setup CD.

  3. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  4. In the Named box, type setup.exe.
  5. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  6. In the list of found files, double-click the Setup.exe file located in the cd-rom:\MHP folder to start Home Publishing 2000 Setup.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Home Publishing 2000.

Install Microsoft Works 2000

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 2 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type wks2000.msi.
  4. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found files, right-click the Wks2000.msi file, and then click Install to start Works 2000 Setup.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Works 2000.

Install Microsoft Money 2000

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 2 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type setup.exe.
  4. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found files, double-click the Setup.exe file located in the cd-rom:\MSMoney folder to start Money 2000 Setup.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Money 2000.

Install Microsoft Word and the Works Word Add-In

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. When you insert the CD-ROM, press and hold down the SHIFT key to prevent Setup from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type msword.
  4. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found folders and files, double-click the MSWord folder.
  6. Double-click the Setup.exe file to start Word Setup.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Word 2000.
  8. When you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.
  9. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  10. In the Named box, type wordadd.
  11. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  12. In the list of found folders and files, double-click the WordAdd folder.
  13. Double-click the Setup.exe file to start Word in Works Suite Add-in Setup.
  14. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the add-in.

Install Microsoft Expedia Streets and Trips 2000

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. When you insert the CD-ROM, press and hold down the SHIFT key to prevent Setup from starting automatically.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type acmboot.exe.
  4. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found files, double-click the Acmboot.exe file to start Expedia Streets and Trips 2000 Setup.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Expedia Streets and Trips 2000.

If you encounter any problems when you attempt to install Expedia Streets and Trips 2000, you can contact Microsoft Expedia Streets and Trips 2000 Technical Support at (425) 637-9308.

Install Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2000

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 3 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. If Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 Setup starts automatically, follow the instructions on the screen to install the program, and then continue to another program installation section in this article. If Setup does not start automatically, proceed to the next step.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type setup.exe.
  4. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found files, double-click one of the Setup.exe files to start Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 Setup.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Encarta Encyclopedia 2000 Setup.

Install Picture It! Express 2000

  1. Insert the Works Suite 2000 Disc 2 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type setup.exe.
  4. In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found files, double-click the Setup.exe file located in the cd-rom:\MSPie folder to start

Picture It! Express 2000 Setup.

  1. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Picture It! Express 2000.

If you are unable to use this method to install Picture It! Express, run Works Suite 2000 Setup in maintenance mode, click to select the Picture It! Express 2000 check box, and then follow the instructions on the screen to install Picture It! Express 2000.
