SYMPTOMS

If you uninstall Outlook Express 5 after you upgrade from Internet Mail and News, you cannot start Internet Mail and News and you may receive the following error message:

Unable to start the application. One of the required components may be busy. Please retry.

If you click Retry, nothing happens.

CAUSE

Internet Mail and News is not compatible with Internet Explorer 5.01 or later.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, uninstall Internet Explorer 5.01 or later, and then revert to Internet Explorer 3:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Internet Explorer 5.01 or Internet Explorer 5.5, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Restore previous Windows Configuration at the prompt.

MORE INFORMATION

Internet Mail and News and Internet Explorer are not compatible because there are conflicting files between Internet Explorer and Internet Mail and News that prevent the two applications from co-existing.
