SUMMARY
In Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, you install Microsoft Publisher 2000 and other programs from Office 2000 CD2 in much the same way you install Microsoft Office 2000 CD1, except that no special transform (MST file) is needed.
This article describes how to install Office 2000 CD2 on Windows Terminal Server.
NOTE: Running Publisher on individual users' computers is different than running it in a Windows Terminal Server environment. When you install Publisher on a Terminal Server computer, the users who connect to the server are limited to your Publisher configuration. In other words, all users running Publisher from the Terminal Server computer inherit the features you select and the options you set during installation. If your users need different sets of Publisher functionality, you might need several Terminal Server computers, one for each unique Publisher configuration.

To run Setup for CD2, you must use the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel, with the All users begin with common application settings option selected. This runs Setup in "Install mode," which installs CD2 for all Windows Terminal Server client users who connect to the server. If you run Setup directly from CD2, Setup runs in "Execute mode," which installs CD2 only for the user running Setup on the server.
To install Office 2000 CD2 on Windows Terminal Server:
- Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. Click Install, and then click Next.
- Click Browse.
- In the root folder of Office 2000 CD2, select Setup.exe and click OK.
Setup.exe is added to the Command line for installation program box. - At the end of the command line, type the following property after Setup.exe, separated by a space:
With this property setting, Publisher prompts each user for a user name when they run the program for the first time.

- Click Next.
- In the Change User Option dialog box, select All users begin with common application settings, and then click Next.
- Type the CD key and the organization, but leave the user name and initials blank for the customer information. Click Next.
- Click to accept the terms of the license agreement and then click Next.
- In the Microsoft Office 2000: Ready to Install dialog box, click Customize.
- Specify the path to install Office 2000 and click Next.
- If you see the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 Upgrade dialog box, select your upgrade choice and click Next.
- In the Microsoft Office 2000: Selecting Features dialog box, click the drop-down arrow for Microsoft Office and click Run all from My Computer.
- Expand the feature tree, and change the installation state of any feature you do not want to install to Not Available.
NOTE: The only installation states you should set for any of the features are: Run from My Computer, Run all from My Computer, or Not Available.
The following features do not perform well in the Windows Terminal Server environment and the supported installation state for all of these features is Not Available:
- All individual Office Assistant characters
NOTE: Leave the Office Assistant feature as Run from My Computer. This setting installs the necessary files to support the Motionless Office Assistant (included in the Office 2000 Resource Kit), which you might want to install at a later time.

- All individual Office Assistant characters
- Click Yes when asked to restart the computer.
- Log on as the same user so Microsoft Office can complete the installation.
