SYMPTOMS

When using Outlook with the Send messages immediately flag set, messages will stay in the Outbox until the user clicks Send/Receive. This happens only when the client is configured with Log on using Secure Password Authentication selected. If Outlook is configured with a cached account and password, the message is sent right away.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
